MNL48 premieres ‘High Tension’ Music Video

02/19/2020
by MNL48 Philippines

Tension-sion-sion-sion-sion, tension max!

The long wait is finally over as the Philippine idol group MNL48 finally dropped their newest, fun and high-energetic fifth single High Tension music video today, February 19th, 2020 on their official YouTube channel.

‘High Tension’ – featuring MNL48 Coleen, Kay, Alice, Rans, Laney, Yzabel, Dian, Aly, Sela, Abby, Sheki, Cole, Jamie, Belle, Yssa, and center girl Gabb – along with its coupling songs ‘Green Flash’ and ‘1! 2! 3! 4! Yoroshiku!’is MNL48’s fifth single that was released last November 1st during the Coslandia event. They are the Tagalized versions of the same titles of AKB48’s 46th major single released in 2016.

Before the official release of the music video, MNL48 surprised the fans by dropping the official teaser last February 9 on the official Youtube page of the idol group .The official teaser showcased another side of the girls; serving great visuals and aesthetic looks through fierce and feisty styles with stunning black, white, and silver outfits. It sure left everyone with mixed emotions as they have shared their different theories and conspiracies on the comment section about the music video.

The ‘High Tension’ music video is full of symbolisms and representation of MNL48’s victories throughout their journey. Director Miko Pelino shared the concept behind the official music video, “Concept is overcoming problems and stress from everyday life. For the video, we used symbolisms like black balloons to represent these problems. The girls overcome these obstacles by facing them head on, hence the tough vibe, sticking together and having fun.”

When asked about how MNL48’s music video differs from other sister groups’, he added, “The biggest difference from the High Tension music videos of their sister groups is that they won’t be wearing their MNL48 uniforms. And the location represents the Philippines.”

As the center of High Tension, MNL48 Gabb expressed how grateful she was about the opportunity given to her, “Hanggang ngayon po di ako makapaniwala na ako ‘yung pipiliin nila maging center ng fifth single which is the ‘High Tension’ po.

MNL48 clinches to be part of the ‘Tabing Ilog the Musical’

02/11/2020
by MNL48 Philippines

Aside from music, TV shows and movies, the Philippine idol group MNL48 is set to conquer the bigger stage of the musical entertainment as MNL48 Abby, Belle and Brei were officially announced to portray the well-known ‘barkada’ (characters) from the ABS-CBN’s TV series turned musical ‘Tabing Ilog the Musical’ last February 06, 2020 at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater.

As the event officially revealed the casts for the musical, MNL48 Abby and MNL48 Belle as ‘George’ (originally played by Jodi Sta. Maria) and MNL48 Brei as the new character ‘Sammy’, alongside with their co-actors from ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother, Star Hunt artists, as well as film and theater actors like Agot Isidro, Gab Pangilinan, Vino Manalot, Paolo O’hara and others, opened the press conference by performing a musical snippet from their show, ‘Tabing Ilog the Musical.’

Truth be told, MNL48 Brei confessed that she hasn’t watched any theater musical and this will be her first time, “Never pa po ako nakapanood ng musical theater pero sobrang nae-excite po ako nung nalaman ko po na nakapasok dito tsaka malaking adjustment din po para sa’kin kahit na po gustong-gusto ko ‘yung pag-kanta kasi hindi po ako sanay sa malalaking movement ‘yun po ‘yung kinakatakot ko kasi hindi po ako malaki pero sobrang excited po ako na gawin ‘to kasama sila”.

One of the wishes from her bucket list has been marked as MNL48 Belle shared that being in a musical is her dream, “Sobrang inspiring po na ma-experience ‘yung theater and isa po ito sa mga dream ko before and I’m so overwhelmed para po maka-pasok dito”. Indeed, musical is way different from MNL48’s nature, but MNL48 Abby expressed that even though musical is very challenging, they are striving hard to prove that they can do more, “Challenging siya kasi as an MNL48 member po, nagpe-perform po kami and hindi bago sa amin ang pag-sayaw at ang pag-kanta po and medyo kinakabahan kami ngayon pero andito po kami para gawin ‘yung aming goal na maipakita na ang MNL48 member po ay may mga kaya pang gawin”.

Tabing Ilog the Musical, a stage adaptation of the ABS-CBN’s teen drama series ‘Tabing Ilog’ that depicts romance, friendship and facing real life social issues, retells the story of the wellloved series with a modern and innovative take directed by Topper Fabregas, written by Jade Castro and musical direction by Vincent de Jesus with their creative team.

MNL48 Team L and First Gen members levels up the ‘Party Ga Hajimaru Yo’ Theatre Show

02/04/2020
by MNL48 Philippines

The weekend was a blast as MNL48 welcomed this month with two ‘Party Ga Hajimaru Yo’ theatre shows, Team L performing on Saturday (February 1st) and First Generation members on Sunday (February 2nd) at Movie Stars Cafe.

New songs, new themes, and new costumes are three of what makes the theatre shows worth the watch; the venue was filled with colourful light sticks, booming fan chants, and an expectant crowd. It surely was a sight and an enjoyable experience for MNLoves as they saw their idols get on stage with never-before-seen performances, which the girls have been getting ready for in a long time.

MNL48 Kay, the Team L captain, shared their preparations for this theatre show. “‘Yung buong December nag-practice talaga kami at pinaghandaan namin, like every day, sa isang araw sobrang haba ng practice namin, like 6 hours. Hindi po kami natutulog ng maaga minsan kasi [aaralin namin ang] lyrics, then voice training, dance training, and may kasamang exercise, like jogging. “Sobrang nakakagaan sa loob na mapakita namin sa fans finally ‘yung pinaghandaan namin simula last year. At napansin ko sobrang laki ng improvement ng bawat members kasi as a team captain, nag-oobserve ako ng skills nila tapos ngayon nakita ko yung pag-iimprove nila kaya sobrang saya po,” she added.

The three teams of MNL48 have experienced performing as teams for the first time on their team concert series last October 2019. This time, on their theatre shows, gives them an opportunity to form their bond as teams even stronger. “Lahat po kami nag-effort dito, nagtulungan po kami kaya sobrang malaking bagay po itong theatre show para maging isa yung team at magkasundo sa bawat bagay,” MNL48 Kay concluded.

On the following day, fans were thrilled to see the 16 members of the First Generation united again for the theatre show. This was a chance for the members to showcase their improvements and how far they’ve become in two years of training as idols. As the theatre show went successful, MNL48 Grace expressed how proud she was seeing the first generation members killed the theatre show, “First Gen theatre show is different po talaga kasi bukod sa iba't ibang team nanggaling ‘yung members, ngayon lang po ulit nagsama-sama ‘yung 1st gen members sa stage after a long time po. ‘Yung pinag-practice po namin for the last two years ngayon lang namin nagawa as 1st gen. Sobrang masaya ako na naka-sama ako sa first batch ng 1st gen to perform theatre show.”

Besides getting to hear the new theatre songs and seeing the exclusive performances, fans who attended the shows were also lucky to meet their idols up close during the Hi-Touch session as well as the merchandise selling.

MNL48 Faith bids her fans farewell

01/28/2020
by MNL48 Philippines

As Faith had always been a part of the Senbatsu in each single, fans were emotional to witness her last appearance as an MNL48 member in her Sayonara Mini Live on January 26th, 2020 at Movie Stars Café.

She performed a medley of all their main singles, with the Senbatsu members of each one, which were both an entertainment and a nostalgic moment for them and the fans. She also gave her audience song and dance numbers on some foreign music, and of course, her personal favorite, AKB48’s ‘Kokoro no Placard’ in Filipino (Plakard ng Aking Puso). The crowd erupted into loud shouts of joy as two former MNL48 members appeared too, Nice and Ash, whom Faith, as it turned out, secretly invited to join her perform on stage for the last time.

Together with other MNL48 members, Faith performed ‘Talulot ng Sakura’, a song depicting change and facing the future with hope. The song was personally special for her, as she told the audience that it was the first song she ever practiced as a member and was then the last song she sings on stage.

For her, being in MNL48 changed her life in a way that she had gained confidence. “I believe naman na everybody has their own star and meron tayong maipapakita, pero the Faith back then wasn’t able to show herself masyado kasi nahihiya siya,” she remarked. “She’s like always that shy girl, random, and very quirky. In MNL48 I was able to be confident enough to be quirky as I am now, [and I don’t shy away anymore] sa mga gusto kong gawin. I learned to take every opportunity kasi ‘yung chance isang beses lang siya dumarating sa life.”

“What I will miss the most is spending time with my sisters sa MNL48, ‘yung random moments and ‘yung mga times na kami-kami lang, [as well as] learning ‘yung mga new songs [that are yet to be released],” she expressed. Aside from that, she also shared her most memorable experience in being an MNL48 idol. “‘Yung pinaka-memorable sa’kin is when I went to Bangkok for the [2019 AKB48 Group] Asia Festival because it was my first time to go overseas [for work]. I got to spend time with my sisters sa ibang groups and sobrang nakakatuwa to share our different cultures, kasi I really like learning languages and other cultures kaya that was a big opportunity for me. And I made good friends na hindi ko ine-expect; we still stay in touch and I feel like we’ll see each other pa.”

As she departs from the idol group industry to take on a different career path, here’s her final message that she wanted to get across to her fans: “I hope that they won’t be too sad kasi nakikita ko sa social media sobrang na-surprise sila sa announcement ko and everything still feels surreal for each one of us kaya if ever mag-sink in na I hope na hindi naman masyadong malungkot. ‘Yung mga sinabi kong messages during my concert and du’n sa songs na pinerform ko, I hope ‘yun ‘yung maging batayan nila na don’t be too sad because it’s just me trying to move forward in life. And you’ll see me around, I’ll still be the Faith that you guys love. I love you guys, thank you so much for all the support, hindi masasayang ‘yon.”

Faith, being one of the consistent top members, will surely be missed by MNLoves and her Feitoverse. Notwithstanding, the rest of MNL48 continues their journey as this coming month of February is packed with their new theatre shows and other events! Check the official social media pages for the dates and more announcements, and remember to catch the girls’ live streams daily on Kumu.
