MNL48 takes over the fun at the launching of Pokemon Sword and Shield at the Robinsons Galleria South

The Philippine idol group MNL48 was back for another round of fun and intense battle as the girls hyped up the crowd with their hits and went head to head against their new opponents in the grand launch of the first mainline Pokemon game of Nintendo Switch, ‘Pokemon Sword and Shield’ last December 14, 2019 at the Robinsons Galleria South, Laguna.
To set the mood of the event, MNL48 - Aly, Sela, Abby, Sheki, Jamie, Gabb, Jem, Coleen, Belle, Amy, Yssa, Dian, Dana, Laney, Cole and Shaina – performed some of their hits ‘Aitakatta – Gustong Makita’ ‘Bingo!’ ‘First Rabbit’ ‘Manila 48’ ‘Paluso’t Ko’y Maybe’ ‘Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie’ ‘Ikaw Ang Melody’ and their newest single ‘High Tension’.
As the most-awaited Pokemon battle finally came, 16 members of MNL48 was divided into four teams – Pokemon team 1; Dana, Jem, Sela and Jaime, Pokemon Team 2; Belle, Yssa, Abby and Amy, Pokemon team 3; Sheki, Dian, Cole and Coleen and Pokemon Team 4; Gabb, Shaina, Aly and Laney – to battle against the frontliners of the gaming industry of the Philippines called ‘The Rumble Royale’, composed of gamers such as Suzzysaur, Myrtle, Rockhart, and Claro The Third.
Asked how she felt after battling against an expert Pokemon gamer, MNL48 Jem shared her thoughts about the game and her sentiments for gamers like the Royal Rumble Talents.
“The feeling was different kasi last time po, nag-laban kami against each member of MNL48 but this time ang kalaban namin ay legit gamers that has wider knowledge about Pokemon. Ang nangyari ay natalo kami sa unang
game na user po ng grass type Pokemon, but hindi ko pinagsisihan ‘yung mga nangyari kasi I told myself that it’s time for gamers to shine because this was their field and they’re best at it po.” Jem expressed.
After the four rounds of Pokemon battle, it was no surprise that the expertise in all kinds of game of the Rumble Royale took their spot in the championship as winners against MNL48. However, the girls showed determination and sportsmanship in the game and it was seen in their faces that they truly enjoyed the fun and game.
‘Pokemon Sword and Shield’ – developed by Game Freak and published by The Pokemon Company and Nintendo – was released last November 15, 2019 worldwide as the first mainline Pokemon game of Nintendo Switch. MNL48: The Battle Royale at the Grand Launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield

The game is on as the Philippine idol group MNL48 excites fans as they go head to head against each other in a Pokemon battle and max raid in the grand launch of the most-awaited first mainline Pokemon game of Nintendo Switch, ‘Pokemon Sword and Shield’ last November 15, 16 and 17 2019 at Robinsons Magnolia.
MNL48 – Aly, Sela, Abby, Sheki, Jamie, Gabb, Jem, Coleen, Belle, Amy, Yssa, Dian, Dana, Laney Cole and Shaina – enticed the fans by performing their biggest hits; ‘Aitakatta – Gustong Makita’ ‘Bingo!’ ‘First Rabbit’ ‘Manila 48’ ‘Palusot Ko’y Maybe’ ‘Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie’ Ikaw Ang Melody’ and their newest fifth single ‘High Tension’ as they set the mood before their exciting max raid and Pokemon battle.
As the battle finally came, MNL48 participated in two battle games; the max raid, a game wherein four trainers have to defeat a dynamax Pokemon in a same battlefield and a Pokemon battle which MNL48 was divided into 4 Pokemon teams – Pokemon team 1; Dana, Jem, Sela and Jaime, Pokemon Team 2; Belle, Yssa, Abby and Amy, Pokemon team 3; Sheki, Dian, Cole and Coleen and Pokemon Team 4; Gabb, Shaina, Aly and Laney – to battle against each other and win the championship with a surprising prize that awaits them.
For a Pokemon fan since generation 1, MNL48 Jem can’t contain her excitement to play the newly released ‘Pokemon Sword and Shield’ as she expressed, “Sobrang saya po kasi since childhood naglalaro na ako ng pokemon, and my insights about the new game ‘sword and shield’, compare po sa pokemon evee and pokemon Pikachu, sobrang ganda po ng technicalities lalo na po ‘yung graphics and newly added features sa battle and pag-catch ng Pokemon.”
When asked about which Pokemon she will catch in her adventure in ‘Pokemon sword and shield’ she answered, “I’ll go for Haunter pa din po, kasi si Haunter ay isang ghost type pokemon so if magkakaroon ako ng kalaban na hindi knowledgeable sa battle, magkakaroon po ako ng advantage kasi hindi tumatalab sa kanya ‘yung ibang attacks lalo na normal attacks.”
The battle was close between the 4 teams but Pokemon Team 1 emerged as the winner of the game and will fly to visit the Pokemon center in Singapore. Indeed, MNL48 were truly versatile idols as they proved that they can be a performer and a gamer at the same time.

MNL48 elevates the fun at Japan Fiesta 2019!

After the successful event at Coslandia 2019 last November 1, 2 and 3, the Philippine idol group MNL48 followed it up with another Japanese tourism and cultural celebration as one of the guest performers for the first ever Japan Fiesta 2019 hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Manila last November 9 and 10, 2019 at SMX Convention Center SM Aura.
MNL48 - Gabb, Yssa, Belle, Jamie, Cole, Sela, Sheki and Aly - were set to take the stage of this event to showcase and introduce the lively world of idols in Japan to the Philippines.
To formally start the event, MNL48 Abby alongside with the honorable ambassador of Japan to the Republic of the Philippines, Mr Koji Haneda and the Secretary of the Department of Tourism, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat opened the event by performing a ceremony named ‘Kagami-biraki’.
On the first day of the festival, MNL48 performed their biggest hit ‘Aitakatta – Gustong Makita’ ‘365 Araw ng Eroplanong Papel’ and their newest single ‘High Tension’ while ‘Pagibig Fortune Cookie’ ‘First Rabbit’ and again, ‘High Tension’ were being performed during the second day of the event.
Japan Fiesta 2019 is a two-day festival – organized by the Embassy of Japan together with the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), Japan Foundation, Manila; Japan Association, Manila Inc. (JAMI) and Primer Media Inc. – that celebrates and showcases the beauty of Japan – from amazing travels and popular destinations, to authentic Japanese food and to remarkable and one-of-a-kind culture of Japan – that aims to boost the tourism and strengthen the relationship of Japan and the Philippines as well as enriching the cultural appreciation of Filipinos towards Japan culture.
Joining MNL48 in the roster of guests and performers are the Japanese artists like Japanese comedy trio, HPN3; Yoyo master, BLACK; and the incredible Japanese drums club, WAKODAIKO together with the local artists, such as the multi-talented superstar, Sarah Geronimo; astounding host and TV personality, Robi Domingo; Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) stars, Fumiya and Yamyam.
MNL48 Jamie found the event a good platform to expand their purpose and to connect deeper to their fans as she expressed “Japan Fiesta is a convention housing everything about Japan; food, culture, transportation, tourism, and the like. The attendees of the convention must be people who are interested in Japan and Japanese culture. Being an official international sister group of Japan’s highest selling girl group AKB48, Japan Fiesta was the perfect avenue for us, MNL48, to promote our music with it being a translation of famous AKB48 tracks with a Filipino flavor added.”
She also expressed how grateful they were seeing new faces who support and idolize them, “isang malaking karangalan ang maging idolo ng kabataan. Ito rin ay nagsisilbing paalala sa akin na dapat sa lahat ng aking maging aksiyon ay dapat nakakainspire ito sa mga tumitingala sa aming mga idols. Nakakataba ng puso na makita ang mga kabataang katulad ko na humahanga sa aming mga idol dahil noon isa rin ako sa mga nangangarap at tumitingala sa mga idol.”.
Indeed, MNL48 iwas one of the perfect guests of Japan Fiesta as they are the international sister group of Japan idol group AKB48 and have been performed internationally, including Japan, for numerous occasions that made them a big help tightening the relationship between the two countries because of connecting to their Filipinos and Japanese fans through music.
